“Give Bayou” and Support 53 Lafourche and Terrebonne Nonprofits on Tuesday, May 2

On Tuesday, May 2, our Terrebonne and Lafourche communities will come together to support the great work of 53 local nonprofits during the 24-hour online giving event known as “GiveNOLA Day.”

Sponsored by the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF), GiveNOLA Day benefits participating nonprofit organizations throughout the Greater New Orleans region – including Terrebonne and Lafourche –  and the nonprofits also receive “a little something extra” from the GIveNOLA Day Lagniappe Fund for every dollar they receive in online donations on May 2.

On May 3, 2016, 713 nonprofits participating in GiveNOLA Day throughout the metro area raised $4 million in gifts.  Here in the Bayou Region, 54 nonprofits raised $52,600 through GiveNOLA last year. This year, the goal for the 52 Lafourche and Terrebonne nonprofits is to raise a total of $75,000.

The Bayou Community Foundation (BCF), which serves Lafourche and Terrebonne, is coordinating a “Give Bayou” campaign to promote the local nonprofit organizations that are participating in the giving event and to encourage local residents to make online donations to our Bayou Region nonprofits May 2. A full list of all participating Bayou Region nonprofits and more information about local efforts can be found at GiveBayou.org.

“The Bayou Community Foundation is committed to supporting the work of our local nonprofits to meet the critical needs of our Bayou Region all throughout the year. We are delighted to once again promote ‘Give Bayou’ to support our community on this one very special day of giving,” said BCF Chairman Dr. James Leonard. “With a donation as little as $10, everyone can be a philanthropist on May 2 and we encourage local residents to show their support for as many of our local nonprofits as possible by giving online that day. We are such a generous, caring community.  We can all help our area shine on May 2!”

For the first time, BCF will be able to accept online gifts on GiveNOLA Day this year. Donors can make gifts directly to Bayou Community Foundation through GiveNOLA.org and 100 percent of gifts made to BCF through GiveNOLA will fund grants to local nonprofits this summer for critical program addressing human services, education, workforce development and coastal preservation. Last year, BCF awarded $190,650 in grants to 26 nonprofits, and GiveNOLA Day donations to BCF will help expand those grant awards in 2017.

“You give. We give. Our community wins,” explains Dr. Leonard.

In addition, once BCF reaches $10,000 in gifts through GiveNOLA, the community foundation will share a portion of additional money raised with the 52 other participating nonprofits in the Bayou Region in honor of the late Al Danos, Jr, a founding member of the BCF Board of Directors

“Our dad, Al Danos, was proud to serve our community, and his love for Lafourche and Terrebonne was unwavering.  He gave his time, talent and treasure to help local nonprofits, and taught us all how generosity and kindness can move mountains,” says Rene David, Danos’ daughter and a current BCF Board member. “We know Daddy would be so proud to be a part of this exciting effort supporting the work of local nonprofits.”
