Money brought in during the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s 24-hour GiveNOLA donation drive held Tuesday exceeded the goals set by event coordinators and nearly doubled last year’s revenues.
In GiveBayou, the region’s branch of the drive, 859 donations totalled just under $40,000.
The foundation’s overall drive brought in 34,539 donations totalling $4 million, eclipsing the $3 million goal and surpassing last year’s $2.2 million in donations. That money will be divvied among 550 organizations in a 13-parish region.
In a partnership with the Greater New Orleans Foundation, the local philanthropic organization Bayou Community Foundation hosted GiveBayou, the first 24-hour donation drive specifically focused on nonprofits in Terrebonne and Lafourche.
The drive was accompanied by donation celebrations at the Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum in Houma and the Bayou Lafourche Area Convention and Visitors Bureau in Raceland.
